White Squall

From White Squall

We are into the season of southwest wind and squalls.

Careful that a white squall does not catch you unaware like it did us. Truthfully, a lot of it had to do with the fact that we just didn’t WANT to see it. Travis was almost ready to hit the water. He was attaching his last line to the kite and I was walking down to the beach with my gear in tow. I didn’t even get a chance to sit it down. Behind Travis, a bolt of lightening struck the water as a white wall of water was rapidly approaching. I just turned on my heel and ran my stuff back to the van while Travis deflated a flogging kite. He got the kite in the van as the first drops of rain started falling….

Even though times like this can be disappointing, I have to remind myself that the best sunsets often come from the worst sessions. And, one wave is better than zero.
